How to calculate BMI from height and weight
Calculate body mass index from weight in kilograms and height in centimeters, then read the basic BMI category with the right context.

BMI is a quick ratio based on body weight and height. It is useful for a rough screening number, but it is only as good as the inputs. Use a recent weight in kilograms and a height in centimeters. If you only have pounds or feet and inches, convert those first so the calculation uses the same metric units the tool expects.
What BMI actually calculates
The formula divides weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. For example, 70 kg and 175 cm becomes 70 divided by 1.75 squared, which is about 22.9. ToolBento handles that formula for you, so you do not need to convert centimeters into meters or square the height by hand.
What to enter in ToolBento
Open ToolBento's BMI Calculator and fill in two plain-language fields. Weight kg is your body weight in kilograms. Height cm is your height in centimeters. Enter numbers only, such as 70 for weight and 175 for height, rather than adding kg or cm in the field.
Press Calculate for BMI and category
After the weight and height fields look right, press Calculate. The tool returns a BMI number and a Category line. The current category labels are Underweight, Normal, Overweight, and Obese, based on the standard BMI cutoffs used by the calculator.
Read the category as a screening label
A BMI category is not a diagnosis. It does not directly measure body fat, muscle mass, bone density, pregnancy status, age-related changes, or athletic build. Use the result as a simple reference point, then talk with a qualified health professional if the number affects medical decisions, medication, training plans, or diet changes.
Rerun it when the inputs change
BMI changes when weight changes, while height usually stays fixed for adults. If you are tracking a trend, use the same scale, similar time of day, and the same height entry each time. Press Calculate again after updating the weight so the result reflects the new measurement instead of an old note.
Small mistakes that skew BMI
The most common error is mixing units: entering pounds in the Weight kg field or inches in the Height cm field will produce the wrong BMI. Also watch for decimal separators, rounded heights, and copied values with extra text. If the result looks impossible, check the units before interpreting the category.
